Mechanics that Make Sense: An Update to the FLOWER Harvesting System.

Flowerpatch was released nearly 4 years ago, and as the community grows over time, so does the game. The game developers at Nugbase are looking at every aspect of Flowerpatch and are working towards updating them to meet today’s standards. Updating the harvesting mechanics in Flowerpatch is just one step in our plan to make every mechanic be part of a larger, cohesive game loop.

TL:DR

SEED Harvesting

We felt that the relationship between FLOWER card stats and the resulting SEED tokens harvested was pretty arbitrary, and actually felt pretty bad with some legendary FLOWER cards receiving 0 SEED per harvest. We changed the system now to reward rarity above all else. The higher rarity your FLOWER card, the more SEED you harvest. Every other stat that goes into the new SEED harvesting algorithm, other than rarity, just buffs the amount of SEED you will receive.

The relationship between average seed per hour versus the rarity for a given FLOWER card. The bounds shown here are for a FLOWER card with 25 harvest spread

We are now defining each FLOWER card with a given SEED per hour. This stat increases as rarity increases. Furthermore, harvest spread now increases the upper and lower bounds of possible SEEDs per hour on each FLOWER card. If you have a high harvest spread, there is a chance that you can increase the amount of SEEDs you get per hour, but also decrease it as well. Lastly, we have changed seed drop to always give a constant multiplier to the amount of SEED that you harvest. A seed drop value of 0 will no longer cause a legendary to harvest no SEED.

Growth Time

Growth time in minutes versus the Growth Speed

We have changed it so a lower growth speed stat decreases the time in-between harvests. We think that the game will feel much better with longer harvest times with higher payouts per harvest.

Resource Harvesting

The amount of non-SEED resources you gain per hour versus rarity for a given FLOWER card

All non-SEED resources now follow this curve above to determine the average amount of resources you get per harvest. This scale favors commons, so even though you won’t get as many SEEDs, you’ll get a lot of resources.

Everyone at Nugbase believes these changes will contribute to a better game experience. Let us know what you think and we look forward to you trying them out in Alvita & Livity. The patch is out March 15th. Happy farming, and beware the Ides of March.
